Organic or conventional?

Tea is one of the cleanest foods in the world whether it has been cultivated organically or conventionally. The advantage of organic tea lies above all in its particularly gentle cultivation methods for the benefit of the environment, people and nature. Our fundamental maxim is valid for conventional as well as organic cultivation: fair, healthy & tasty!

More and more people choose to buy organic tea, since not only the taste is a reason for purchase, but also consumer responsibility. Organic does not only mean that no pesticides, fertilizer or genetic engineering are used but that quality is more important than quantity. Organic means, above all ensuring the natural circle of life and an intact relationship between humans, animals and environment. Organic farming aims at preserving the environment for the generations to come by a conscious and responsible use of resources.

What does organic farming mean?

Organic farming is a particularly natural form of agriculture in which synthetic pesticides and mineral fertilizers are largely dispensed with. The use of genetically modified plants is also prohibited, as is the addition of flavour enhancers, artificial flavours and artificial colourings or preservatives to the finished organic product. Organic agriculture is based on production methods that enable environmentally friendly production and a closed natural production cycle. For this reason, organic farming often combines crop production and animal husbandry and composts the crop waste to improve the soil. Soil conservation and soil care play an important role in organic agriculture: a healthy and fertile soil requires naturally occurring animals and organisms as well as rich mineral and nutrient resources. This is ensured by gentle soil cultivation methods and the use of robust varieties as well as preventive plant protection measures that make the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides superfluous.

Teas with organic certification

Our teas with organic certification come from controlled organic production according to the EU Regulation on organic farming. The organic label guarantees a production according to ecological criteria. “Organic” or “ecological” are designations protected by law. Compliance with the latest regulations is strictly and regularly monitored.

Organic certification

Besides the certification of the TeaGschwendner headquarters and the organic certifications of the tea gardens in the origin, every franchise partner in Europe is being certified as a trader of organic products by a control authority. Each franchise shop is yearly controlled and newly certified.

The current organic label of the European union grants EU-wide compliance of products.

The German organic label was replaced by the EU logo in 2010 and may now only be used in conjunction with the EU label.

Eco-control center

The teas marked “organic cultivation” in this list are regularly checked by the officially recognized control center DE-013 for compliance with the EU eco-regulation.
